Rep. Thomas Massie Talks ‘Country of Origin’ Label Legislation for the UNITED STATES

Congress repealed country of origin labeling requirements in 2015 for beef and pork - Thomas Massie is trying to bring it back.

Rep. Thomas Massie speaks with Shannon Joy about legislation he is drafting to bring back the COOL, Country of Origin Labeling requirement for pork and beef products sold in the United States.

In 2015, Congress responded to a threat made by the World Trade Organization of $1 billion annually in sanctions, if the labeling requirements were not removed. The WTO sided with Mexico and Canada in their efforts to repeal the labeling requirement, stating that American cattle ranchers had an unfair advantage in the U.S. market.

Once this labeling requirement was removed, it essentially allowed for beef products to be labeled “Product of the USA”, even if the cattle were born, raised and slaughtered abroad, so long as some of the processing occurred within the United States.

Direct to Consumer Beef

One way around this in the meantime, is to buy direct to consumer. This gives consumers more control and information on their shopping choices.

Essfeed has a pretty good list, which I have included below.

  1. Omaha Steaks

  2. ButcherBox

  3. Premium Foods USA

  4. Perdue Farms

  5. Snake River Farms

  6. Porter Road

  7. Rastelli’s

  8. Belcampo

  9. White Oak Pastures

  10. Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors

An additional recommendation that I found on a video, that looked interesting: 🛒🥩Beef Initiative - ships rancher, direct to consumer

I found the Beef Initiative on a video on the Solari Report Channel, with Catherine Austin Fitts titled “The Beef Initiative with Breeauna Sagdal”. Linked below.👇

Suggestions - what brands, and where do you buy your meat?

I would love to hear in the comments! Have you used any of these companies that I have mentioned, if so, what did you think? If you have a deep freezer, or extra storage, direct to consumer, or direct from rancher, is a great option to buy in bulk. It’s getting harder and harder to put quality food on the table, that is not filled with ‘pink slime’, antibiotics, and raised ethically.
