AI Press Conference: The United Nations- Where has the American 💲 gone?💸
As the UN finds their footing in light of significant U.S. withdrawal, a reporter asks a pesky question about money, singling out the United States.

At the 3:55 mark, on the video below, a reporter with the UN Correspondents Organization for South African Broadcasting, Chovin Bryce, points out to the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, “you and I both know, there are no resources.”
This is in reference to funding for a newly formed Independent International Scientific Panel on AI. This newly formed panel, is a result of the Global Digital Compact(GDC), which was adopted as an annex to the Pact of the Future by member states in 2024. The United States voted in favor of ‘Al Global Governance’ which includes the formation of an independent panel for AI development, global cooperation and policy discussions for emerging technologies, along with 143 other member states, at the UN summit in 2024. 7 voted against it, while 15 members states abstained in the vote. 2024 seems like a lifetime ago, in a time of hyper AI development. The UN is definitely dealing with a whole new U.S. administration; one who has pushed back on the United Nations, the fee structure expected, in relation to other member states, and our involvement in treaties that are ‘contrary to American interests’. Since President Trump has taken office, he has withdrawn the United States from 66 treaties, has not paid the outstanding UN dues, while being vocal about other member states not paying their dues. The U.S. currently has an outstanding balance of $4.5 billion in UN dues. This is probably the source of Mr. Bryce and his sharp tone related to the United States and our outstanding dues. For context, Congress has capped the United States payments at 22% of the UN’s regular budget. Even so, the United States is still the single largest contributor to the UN budget, by volume. Things can get a little dicey when member states aren’t paying their share, especially when dealing with promises made by prior administrations and dealing with a new U.S. President. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has recently warned that the United Nations is at risk of “imminent financial collapse” by July 2026, due to a severe funding crisis.
With all of this uncertainty in the UN’s future, you may be wondering about official statements from the Administration about ‘AI Global Governance’, which is related to the recent UN AI press conference. While President Trump himself has not yet directly commented on the recent AI press conference, back in September of last year, Micheal Kratsios, U.S. Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, stated at the UN Security Council:
“We totally reject all efforts by international bodies to assert centralized control and global governance of AI.”~ NBC Nightly News
All of this resistance and rejection related to the UN, flies in the face of an announcement about 3 weeks ago, describing a new UN-like organization called the Board of Peace, initiated by President Trump.

Is there a ‘New World Order’ occurring, as Vice President JD Vance said numerous times in this Megyn Kelly interview, or is this just the same ‘New World Order’ that has been in the works, by other American internationalists like Henry Kissinger, President Obama and both Bush presidents frequently talked about? A ‘New World Order’ can be redefined, in American sovereignty terms, by redefining how we interact with the rest of the world; economically and otherwise. Whether that is actually what is happening….I really don’t know. Time will tell. In the meantime, we should pay very close attention, in my opinion, to how AI development affects our precious freedoms that we still have in tact.
